Information we collect

When you use BarryEditor, we may collect the following information:

Email address: If you choose to unlock premium features or request access to your analysis history, we collect your email address for authentication purposes and to send you access links.

Manuscript content: When you upload a manuscript for analysis, we temporarily process its content to provide our analysis service. Please see "How we handle your manuscripts" below for important details.

Usage data: We may collect anonymous usage statistics to improve our service, such as which features are most used and general performance metrics.

How we handle your manuscripts

We understand that your manuscript is your creative work and potentially confidential. Here's exactly what happens with your content:

Temporary processing only: Your manuscript is processed in memory to extract text and perform analysis. We do not permanently store your manuscript files on our servers. Once your analysis is complete, the original file is not retained.

Third-party AI processing: To provide our analysis, we send your manuscript text to third-party AI service providers (such as Google's Gemini API). These providers process your content according to their own terms of service and privacy policies. Based on the terms of the AI services we use, your content is not used to train their AI models.

Analysis results: The results of your analysis (not your original manuscript) may be stored temporarily to allow you to access your results. These results contain summaries and assessments, not your full manuscript text.

No selling or sharing: We never sell, rent, or share your manuscript content with third parties for marketing or any purpose other than providing the analysis service.

Third-party AI services

Our service relies on third-party AI providers to analyze your manuscript. Currently, we use:

Google Gemini API: Your manuscript text is sent to Google's Gemini API for analysis. According to Google's API terms of service, data sent through their API is not used to train their models. You can review Google's privacy practices at policies.google.com/privacy.

We select AI providers that commit to not using API data for model training, but we encourage you to review their terms directly if you have concerns about how your data may be processed.

Data retention

Manuscripts: Original manuscript files are not stored. Text is processed in memory and discarded after analysis.

Analysis results: Analysis results may be retained for a limited period to allow you to access them. Results are associated with a session or email address, not stored indefinitely.

Email addresses: If you provide an email address, it is retained to provide you access to your analyses and for essential service communications.

Cookies and tracking

We use minimal cookies necessary for the service to function, such as session cookies. We do not use tracking cookies for advertising purposes. We may use anonymous analytics to understand how our service is used.

Your rights

You have the right to:

• Request deletion of any data associated with your email address
• Access information about what data we have associated with you
• Opt out of any non-essential communications
